Credit where it’s due, GoW, considering that it’s a f2p game, gives you a lot of content. And one of it is the Arena. (Though, I see how they tie it into a p2w model).
Arena is essentially a “draft pick” game mode. It costs 1000 gold to enter. Each round, you get to pick one out of 3 cards before moving to the next round, for a total of 3 rounds. The first round is Common, second round is rare the last one is ultra rare pick.
You then add your hero (with any weapon you have available with your progression) and you have a team.
Your goal is to try to win 8 matches, before you lose 2. Or as another player said it, the game ends when you win 8 matches or lose 2, whichever comes first.
So what’s in it for you? Well, getting all 8 wins will nab you 4000 gold, 1200 souls, 30 trophies and 5 glory keys. And to be honest, play your cards right and you shouldn’t struggle to get the 8 wins.
So let’s start with the draft pick. – The rule I use is somewhat similar to my deck building rule, but you have to pick one card at a time and you can’t swap it after you pick so here are my tips.
- you start with a common card. Try to pick one that is versatile – deals damage, generates mana.
- Rare, on your second and third pick, you want to think of synergy and colour. Don’t mana block and if you must, think of which order you have to put them.
- You have the most flexibility with your hero, so change your weapon accordingly to it.
Now, as a side conversation, I think this game mode tests your creativity, and it definitely is useful as another tool for a beginner.
As each mob comes to your deck as a level 15, I find it as a perfect place for “test drive” a character.
Since you don’t have infinite amount of soul, you have to decide which character is worth feeding, and which is not. And I find that this is a great place for it. You got a toon and you aren’t sure if you want to level it up, then see if it comes up as a toon to pick in the arena. I’ve now got a few that I’ve changed my opinion because I was “forced” to pick it, and I found that it’s pretty damn useful.
And that’s my small tangent of a thought. I feel like this game mode is really only useful to beginner, as you can get a fair bit of resources. I’m somewhat struggling going through the story line, so this is as good of a place to be farming.
