Fallout 76 – Tips, tricks and shortcuts.

I’ve put a bunch of little nuggets that I’ve collected while I have been playing. (With a lv 130 and 75, I’ll call myself a mid level player). It is current

  1. World map – anything related to the maps/travels.
    • Free travel – There are several free Fast travel points. These are – Vault 76 (where you start), your own C.A.M.P, The Crater (AKA raider base), and The foundation (AKA settler base).
    • With this mechanism, you can use one of these free travel points to get you close to your final destination, to save Caps.
    • Additional “Free” travel points include – Events marked with “!”, the current location of your team member and your team member’s C.A.M.P and survival tent.
    • All Redrock stations has a stash box – many of them also has a scrapping station.
    • Several locations with stash box and a full suite of workbench – The Crater, The Foundation, Overseer’s C.A.M.P, Overseer’s house, Rusty Pick – Home away from home.
  2. Experience.
    • Take advantage of any food/drinks that can give you bonus – Cranberry Relish, Cranberry Cobbler, Nuka Cola Cranberry and Canned Meat Stew etc.
    • Every point of Intelligence increases the amount of experience you gain. One strategy is to invest in Intelligence then re-spec after you hit lv 50.
    • Sleeping (Beds, mattress, etc) all gives you a “well-rested” status that gives you experience bonus.
    • Events to consider are – Path to Enlightenment (Lighthouse right ouside Vault 76 – bonus to this event is that, since one wasteland, the mobs are no longer low levels) and Feed the people (for the Canned Meat Stew).
  3. Caps
    • Caps can be obtained by either selling to NPC vendor, using your vending machine or what you can from completing events.
    • Vendor vs vending machine – Vendor are more reliable, but sells for lower and has a daily cap limit. Vending machine has more potential revenue and possibly sell those rare, in-demand items for a big profit.
    • When using NPC vendor, you can maximise the sell value by – Increasing Charisma (SPECIAL, food, chems, apparel etc), Hard Bargain. Stacking these on a big inventory clear-out can mean big difference.
    • Some scraps cannot be sold unless bulked (e.g., Steel). It’s easy to collect and sell.
    • I’m personally a big fan of selling food – fairly often, other players don’t gather their food – cook them for a little exp (don’t forget super duper) then sell anything excess.
    • There is a bit of science/art in vending machine selling – look around to see what other people may be selling things for and what other people might want (supply and demand).
    • Some items has a very good value – e.g., Space suit at the crater or the asylum uniform fetches a good price for a mere 0.1 pound.
  4. Scrips
    • Almost all events gives you scrips. Some also gives you legendary items (e.g., Scorched earth).
    • Check player vendors – some players sell legendary items at a very good price. – You can sometimes get so much that you can’t exchange it in one day.
    • S.C.O.R.E – daily challenges is also a good place to get scrips – as you can get perk cards etc as well, try to get what you can.
  5. Combat
    • Remember your shortcut for Stimpak. – Try to use the same button/shortcut.
    • Each enemy has a weak spot – hit it for more damage.
    • Don’t under estimate the value of crippling. (either by targetting limbs directly or using perks)
    • Perks, Perks, Perks – Perks makes a huge difference in your play style and best focused.
  6. Weight Management
    • Get rid of your excess – Drop your scrap in your storage. Scrap excess weapons, you really don’t need that much food/drinks or healing items.
    • Often, you can get stuck with too much weight, you can use the strategies to not be overemcombered.
      • Temporarily boost strength – using chems, food, drinks or Perk.
      • Temporarily reduce the weight of items using specific perks or armours (e.g., reduce weapon weight).
  7. Social
    • You can join an party but not play together – you still get party bonus (perks etc).
    • Joining a casual group will allow you to gain int bonus for exp and occasional caps when your team-mate completes quests.
    • Free fast travel to their C.A.M.P and a chance to check out their vending machine.
    • There is a good chance that the C.A.M.P will allow you a new waypoint.
  8. Apps – outside the game
    • Fallout Wiki – Great database and regularly updated. (https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Fallout_Wiki)
    • Nukes and Dragons – One of many sites that allows you to play around with PERKS. (https://nukesdragons.com/fallout76/perks)
    • Fallout 76 Weapons and damage calculator – Hats off to whoever built this. Allows you to enter all the details and compare what the theoretical weapons output is – and compare with another. (https://akarnokd.github.io/rng-76/weapons.html)
    • FO76 map – Apple apps via iTunes – great maps until you know where everything is at. Specially useful to see where your closest scrapping station is.

Thanks for reading and happy nuking!
