Undead nations – Having fun with Uncommon survivors – Hank vs Claudia

Undead nation has a somewhat unique feature, where you have a concept of distance and tanking. Simply stated, in this game, whoever is in the front would get attacked (except AOE effect) and therefore, will act as the primary tank. I say primary, because the game has a few mechanism to disrupt/change this (e.g., Tackle, will push back this primary tank and make the next person in line a tank.)

Of the actual Tank class, Hank and Claudia has skill sets that makes them a wall. That is, their primary function is to stand there and take the hits.

So with that in mind, what are the differences and when will you use them differently?

(I’ve only listed/discussed the comparison of Hank vs Claudia, and not necessarily how to use the different tanks. That will very likely be another post)

Claudia

Pro

  • The cheapest survivor at a mere 2BP
  • The bonus Speed at 2nd skill means that she will be moving forward quick, making her likely be the tank.
  • Skill 3 means the can self heal
  • Overall build means that she takes reduced damage

Con

  • She has zero attack.
  • She has a relatively low HP.
  • If she’s stunned, she’s as tanky as a wet toilet paper.

Hank

Pro

  • Has one of the highest HP in the game
  • Has a AOE pushback

Con

  • One of the most expensive unit at 6BP
  • His attack speed is 5, meaning once every 5 seconds – so the battle can be over before he attacks

So, how/when will you use either of them?

First, if you happen to have gotten either of them with pretty good stars and high level, use that one. (Early game).

When to use Claudia

  • When you want to be efficient with your BP, or want/need to use a tactic early on. – For example, when attacking, you can have a max of 15 BP (fully charged). Claudia will allow you 13 BP to spare on other units, while Hank will only give you 9. This can be a difference of another unit on the battlefield)
  • Lure for Jay (he targets the Survivor with lowest HP)
  • No healer team
  • Raid defense – to buy time

When to use Hank

  • When you want a tank and pushback ability – e.g., Breach lv 10.
  • When you have a slot limit  – e.g., Breach lv 13/23, where you are only allowed to take 2 units

So long story short, they definitely can be used inter-changeably, but there are some very specific use situations where one will have much more use than the other. However, if you are looking for a tank that will absorb a lot of damage, you can’t go past either of them.

Happy hunting.
